custom chain saw are great tools-when they are working properly. Here are five electric saw maintenance tips to keep your electric saw cutting strong.
Keep the chain sharp
Anyone who has tried to pass blunt chains through wood knows the importance of sharp chains.
Polishing chains correctly is an art form, so if you don't want a bunch of useless chains hanging on the garage wall, please consult a professional.
It may cost you less than $10 and save you a lot of grief.

However, if you like the challenge of learning new crafts like me, please be sure to...
Use the correct file size. The box where the chain comes in or your user manual are the two places to find this information.
File at the right angle. You can buy file gauges at most home centers to ensure that you hold the file correctly.
File each tooth with the same number of files (usually 3-6).
Be careful with the depth gauge (the protrusion directly in front of each tooth). If you file them too much, the saw may bite too deeply and cause a stall, or worse, make you lose your balance. Likewise, use the gauge to ensure that you sharpen the depth gauge correctly.
Tighten the chain properly
A chain that is too tight may restrain the saw and stop it from running. On non-roller end rods, over-tightened chains may overheat.
When adjusting the Straight chain saw, hold the tip of the rod up as much as possible and tighten the tightening screw until the slack part is pulled out from the underside of the rod.
Saw maintenance tips
When removing the new chain, soak it in bar stock and chain oil.
Break the new chain
When the chain needs to be replaced, first soak it in strip oil and chain oil for several hours. This ensures that all pivot points are well lubricated.
Then, hang the chain on the nail and let the excess oil drip back into the pot.
Install and tension the chain and run until it gets hot.
The chain becomes loose when heated, so turn off the saw and tighten the chain again.
Then, do some light work, such as cutting off limbs and twigs, for about 30 minutes. Tighten the chain again, and you can put in the heavy work.
Clean the air filter
Keeping the air filter clean is one of the most important parts of chain saw maintenance, which can extend the life of the saw and improve performance.
This is the only line of defense to prevent the engine from inhaling sawdust and dirt, which can clog the carburetor and cause difficulty in starting the saw and poor operation. Contaminants can also damage the piston rings, causing the engine to lose compression, thereby reducing power.
Many saws have a screen instead of a foam or paper filter. In these cases, use an air compressor to guide the air backwards through the filter to prevent debris from entering the media deeper.
If you don't have an air compressor, tap the filter on the edge of the workbench. If you have a foam or paper filter, replace it often-this is much cheaper than replacing the entire saw.

Use fresh gasoline for best chain saw maintenance
Most homeowners’ chainsaws spend much more time in the garage than cutting in the woods.
As natural gas/oil ages, gasoline will decompose in as little as 30 days, producing gums and varnishes that clog the carburetor and cause difficulty in starting and running poorly.
Mix enough fuel to last 30 days. It is better to use a two-stroke oil formulated with a gasoline stabilizer.
